Hypnotherapy FAQ’s

How much does hypnosis combined with Cognitive behavioural Therapy cost?

My rate is £60 per hour. The first and second session requires 1 ½ hours which will cost £90 each. Subsequent sessions if required are 1 hour long which will cost £60. The services I offer enable patients to make profound and rapid changes in their lives so my charges are appropriate for this type of professional service. All payment must be made by cash or cheque; unfortunately I am unable to accept credit/debit cards.

Can anyone be hypnotised?

Yes, anyone can be hypnotised. It is true that some people are more receptive than others, but research evidence tells us that ‘hypnotisability’ is not a factor in how effective hypnotherapy will be.

Will I lose control?

No. Hypnosis is a state of focused attention that is achieved from a relaxed state that I will gently talk you into. You will be aware of everything that I say to you and you will remember almost everything at the end (if I were to talk to you for half an hour without hypnosis you wouldn’t remember everything so this is no different).

How does hypnosis feel?

The experience can vary but most people just become aware of a sense of mind and body relaxation often accompanied by a feeling of heaviness. Many theorists believe that all hypnosis is actually self-hypnosis and, in line with this, you will only become as relaxed as you allow yourself to become. Many people find the second session to be the most relaxing because they know what to expect and can allow themselves to let go more easily making it a pleasant experience.

Is hypnosis safe?

Yes, it is completely safe when performed by a competent practitioner. Hypnotherapy has been endorsed by both the British Medical Association and the British Psychological Society, and this would not be the case if there was any danger at all. Not only is it safe and effective but there are also no side effects whatsoever. Ethical considerations set out by the National Council for Hypnotherapy are strictly adhered to at all times.

How long does a session last?

The initial session and second session will take up to one and a half hours and subsequent sessions up to one hour.

Do you do home visits?

If you are unable to get to the clinic for certain reasons, let me know and we can consider a home visit for you.

How many sessions will I need?

I will be able to advise you on this once we have completed your initial assessment. However, experience and results from research allow me to make reasonably accurate estimates (not guarantees); conditions of a chronic nature, such as depression, fibromyalgia, arthritis, migraines, IBS and eczema/asthma, can expect to see a good level of improvement after two or three sessions but for a good level of management we would be looking at five to eight sessions. Smoking cessation will take two to three sessions. Weight loss is difficult to predict because everyone is so different when it comes to understanding their relationship with food and what the underlying reasons might be. Most people notice an almost immediate change after the first couple of sessions, but research and my own experience (and probably your own experience) tells us that there are no quick fixes when it comes to weight loss and it will usually take around five sessions. Insomnia should take between three to five sessions. Phobias should take between one and three sessions. Performance work, such as presentations and exams usually take around three sessions. Sports performance will be the same, but may continue for longer depending on the person and the problem.

What if I have to cancel my appointment?

I understand that life doesn’t always go as planned and that there may be times when you just cannot make it to your appointment. I think it is reasonable to ask for a minimum of 24 hours – one working day’s notice, which enables me to book another client into your time slot, so no charge will be made. However, you may be charged for your session if you fail to respect this request.
